In Memory of Pete

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkkKgmuIrDo&feature=fvw

Peter, born Illetas Mallorca, 1999/98, died Roslin Feb 21 2011

Talking to me???

I am a relaxed kitty

A rare one of the boys together

I have the remote & I want Motogp on!

sharing the fire. Tho Pete did move enough to get poor woofie to move!
For those that don't know, Peter was rescued from Mallorca in 2003, he spent 6 months in kennels there whilst he got his passport organised then he appeared here & the rest we say is history.
We knew he was unique as he'd eat anything, and had a very sweet tooth.
Considering he'd been in bins near resort hotels, they would have put cake etc in it & he must have got addicted.
That addiction never left him nor the one for ice cream.
He was FIV + (HIV in human terms) and the vet in Spain asked if he was still wanted, yep!
He was near death & she didn't expect him to last in fact she gave him weeks.
But we went no even if its weeks/ months for the last part of his life he's going to be looked after.
So he flew into Manchester, sister went down and got him and he took up residence!
Basil & him hit it off, both shared the passion for ice cream.
Pete knew Basil was special as he was disabled, and they looked out for each other.
Pete missed Basil when he died, and didn't really appreciate me getting a new woofie, but he soon whipped him into shape as Hamish would allow him to bully him!
So they got on!
Pete also loved Motor bikes, no 1 son used to watch all bikes and Pete would sit with him & watch the TV, he could be asleep but as soon as he heard a bike he'd be up glued to TV!
Also we noticed that when a Spanish rider won a race & they played the anthem, didn't matter if Pete was asleep or away from the TV he would race back & then sit to attention.
So heaven knows what his upbringing had been on the island and we know close to where he was there was a military base. Who knows but it was amusing to watch and to his memory the link to the anthem is here.
He went for routine vet visit, he'd been in August as he'd attacked a random dog ( dog lost) and Pete needed a tooth removed. This time he was limping as his claws had turned in his pad,so they cut them, gave him an antibiotic & pain killing injection and then went did you have him on a diet? No this is Pete....
So they decided they better do bloods and it came back that he'd lost 90% function of his kidney and she gave him weeks.
He was in end stage renal failure.
The antibiotic & pain killer must have been too much for his kidneys and he had a bad weekend.
And when the vet called to day to check on him I explained how the weekend had been that he'd been sick & he's acting as though he'd enough of life and seemed anemic.
So the appointment was made and we went to the vet and he died with dignity.
And it looked like a smile on his face.
Thankfully the vet is a believer in an after life for animals & was brilliant.
Like me she believed he had friends meeting him on the other side hence the smile, and we'd like to think Basil had turned up for him.
The sun will now shine for him & he's a kitty with nothing wrong and back the strapping proud Spaniard he was when we first got him waiting for the first motogp race to start in 27 days time.
Hes going to be missed as he was always waiting for you and nagging you to do something for him.
He'd be your companion late at night while you watched the TV and in some cases the person who would help my sister eat a late night curry or pizza.
Life without Pete is going to be hard, he was an in your face cat, so I am glad that if/ when we move he's not there from the beginning to go, the memories are here and not there.
