I was at the movies today, my pre birthday treat to myself.
Those that know me would automatically know if there is a Gerard Butler movie out, I'm there!
Today well, pre screenings of his latest.
But, this was no fluffy rom com, this was gritty stuff, don't know if GB was right for part, but he did an alright job, what got me was the story.
It's real, in fact, the guy he portrayed is still in the Sudan fighting to save the children, trying to do what he can, for a fight/ struggle that isn't his.
Especially when you learn of his back ground, an ex con/ junkie.
I think it's amazing what people can do if they put their mind to it.
I also hope people who see the movie, thn click on his website and help in whatever which way they can.
I'd like to know why Gerry picked it,why that role?
What did it mean to him or was it just a part?
Like Sam Childers I once sat in Church and decided that G*d had spoken to me, I wish that m inner voice told me to do something as mad/wonderful as he had heard. My wee voice just pointed me to a Divinity Faculty where I went for 4 years to get an hons degree, in theolog no less.
I know seems highly unlikely but hey....
But my great master plan was just to serve it was my vocation and yet in my 4 th year I questioned it all and went off and did post grad, and slowly started to loose my religion, oh a cue for a song perphaps?
What got me today was Sam Childers got up and did something, he didn't sit on his bum and in safety, he did something.
I know too many that go to the Kirk on a Sunday, who profess that's what makes them Christian and would look down their noses at someone like him.
The theologian in me says, they haven't heard what Jesus taught,a liberation theologian, while Sam has.
I also believe you don't need to be a Church goer or a bona file Christian to do good works. It's what's in your heart that makes you do things.
Maybe that's why I am not one of the select wearing a dog collar as I envisaged 20 years ago.
I view it differently from the establishment!
But that kind of sums me up!
